A masters degree could be worth
$2.5 million.
Going back to school for your master’s degree can be a challenging decision, especially for working adult students because you have to find a balance between family, work and college coursework. But the rewards of earning a master’s degree will be well worth the time and expense.
The U.S. Census Bureau reported that the 2006 average annual earnings of those with an advanced degree was $79,946 compared to those with a bachelor’s degree, which averaged $54,689, and $29,448 for those with a high school diploma. That means the average worker with a master’s degree can expect to earn $2.5 million over a 40-year career.
In addition to the potential for a larger paycheck, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics, a master’s degree increases a job seeker’s ability to find work. The national average of unemployment for those with higher education is normally less than half of the national average.
