Northern Lights Chapter (#0223), USAWOA 1 Dec 08
1. The Northern Lights USAWOA Chapter convened in the National Guard Armory RM# B203 at Ft. Richardson, AK. Chapter President Randy Templeton called the meeting to order.
2. A quorum was present with 14 members (4 officers) and one guest. The guest was given information on how to join our membership.
3. The meeting was called to order at 1147 hrs.
4. Invocation. No volunteer was present. The chapter is still working on getting a Chaplain.
5. Pledge of Allegiance was completed.
6. The Minutes are located on the website and available for all members to read before the meeting. The secretary Jeff Brehmer briefly discussed the October minutes and a motion was made by Curtis Cain and seconded by Michelle Sprosty.
7. Treasurers Report for October was also present on the website but was briefly discussed by the treasurer Clay Burton. A motion to accept the report was made by Erin O’Hara and seconded by Al Ostrowski.
8. Committee Reports –
a. Membership Committee Chair Curtis Cain is putting some ideas together to bring in more members. He talked about the information that is located on the chapter website which is under the membership tab. He also passed out a handout which outlines membership details. Jeff Brehmer and Jeff Arnold will assist Curtis.
b. Asst VP Reserve/National Guard Affairs Jeff Arnold did not present anything new to the meeting. Jeff sends out information to the Reserve/National Guard personnel anytime we send out information.
9. Unfinished Business –
a. Asst VP for Retired affairs – Chapter President Randy Templeton is still looking for a volunteer. Many names were passed around but nobody volunteered. Randy briefly talked about the roles of this position.
1. Identify programs for the chapter that will reach out to the retired Warrant Officers
in the community with the goal of chapter membership.
2. Prepare and present reports to the chapter membership retiree issues and concerns.
3. Identify chapter activities that might be a special interest to the retired Warrant
Officer.
b. Community Support – The Chapter President first requested a volunteer to take the position as the Community Support chair. At this time no one volunteered. Chapter VP Erin O’Hara reminded everybody that the chapter voted to support the following community organizations: Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, VFW, and American Legion. For this meeting we had to vote on how to support each organization. Erin presented to the Chapter three Courses of Action (COA). The first COA had each chapter member paying an extra $50 annually. COA#2 each chapter member pays $25 or $35 annually and we conduct 1-2 fund raisers per year. COA#3 the chapter conducts 3-5 fund raisers per year. After much discussion and the vote of the members the majority voted on COA#2. The EXCOM will discuss more of the details and report back to the chapter by the February meeting.
c. Memorabilia Custodian – Michelle Sprosty volunteered to fill the position of memorabilia custodian.
d. By-Laws review committee – Al Ostrowski volunteered to fill the position to review the By-Laws.
e. New Treasurer – Ordia Brown volunteered to fill the position as the treasurer for outgoing treasurer Clay Burton.
10. New Business –
a. Chapter Meeting for December. Because of the holiday season, the chapter voted to not have a meeting in December.
b. Jeff Brehmer requested the chapter donate money to the Post Chaplain’s Holiday food assistance program. The program provides over 500 local needy families with $75.00 food vouchers and free turkeys from the commissary. After discussion and the vote of the members, the chapter approved $300.00 be given to the Post Chaplain for the Holiday food assistance program.
11. Announcements. Jeff Brehmer invited all members to join him for a Scotch Doubles tournament at North Bowl in Wasilla. This tournament is for the local Veterans.
12. Raffle. The 50-50 raffle was held at the end of the meeting with a total contribution of $ 46.00, which was won by Jeff Brehmer and he donated his share back to the chapter.
13. Adjournment – Chapter President requested a motion be made to adjourn the meeting. The motion was made by Dave Deming and seconded by Doug Richardson. The meeting adjourned at 1250. The next meeting is scheduled for 8 Jan 09 in the Fisherman’s Lounge at the Wilderness Inn DFAC, Ft. Richardson, AK.
