Northern Lights Chapter (#0223), USAWOA 11 Sep 08
1. The Northern Lights USAWOA Chapter convened in the Fisherman’s Lounge at the Wilderness Inn DFAC at Ft. Richardson, AK. Chapter Vice President Erin O’Hara called the meeting to order.
2. A quorum was present – with 10 members (2 officers) and 9 guests. This chapter currently has 29 members (see attached attendance roster).
3. The meeting was called to order at 1201 hrs.
4. Invocation. No volunteer was present. The chapter is still working on getting a Chaplain.
5. Pledge of Allegiance was completed.
6. The minutes were sent by email and additional copies were present for the non-members. The Chapter Vice President Erin O’Hara read a brief summary of the last meeting held in August. No further discussion was needed the motion to accept the minutes as written was made by Rob Bargewell and seconded by Jose Marquez.
7. Treasurers report August was included in the minutes so no additional motion was made. Clay Burton read the current status of the account - $445.05. The Chapters second 50/50 raffle was being conducted at this time. This month’s treasury report is attached.
8. Committee Reports –
- Membership Committee: Chair Curtis Cain was not available for a status update.
- Asst VP for Reserve and National Guard Affairs: Jeff Arnold introduced himself and provided a brief synopsis of his goals.
9. Unfinished Business -
- USAWOA Northern Lights Chapter Website: Webmaster Curtis Cain was unavailable for a full repot. Chapter VP Erin O’Hara asked how many members had checked out the site – approximately 6 people raised their hands. Erin told everyone briefly about the site and how to find it. She encouraged everyone to check it out and provided feedback to Curtis. This is still unfinished business.
- Asst VP for Retired Affairs: No one volunteered so we are still looking for assistance.
- Community Support: Chapter VP Erin O’Hara gave an update on the four charities chosen as worthy by the Chapter (VFW, Habitat for Humanity, American Red Cross of Ft Richardson and the American Legion). How we will support them still remains to be decided. Several ideas were provided by Chapter VP Erin O’Hara to include time, money, etc. This should be voted on at the next meeting.
- Memorabilia Custodian – The Chapter needs to establish memorabilia that is unique to Alaska and can show off our Chapter. To make this happen we need a volunteer for the memorabilia custodian. Chapter VP requested but nobody volunteered. Everyone like the idea of a Chapter T-shirt, but since there is no existing Chapter logo, Chapter VP Erin O’Hara suggested everyone get their ideas together and bring them to the next meeting. Member Rob Bargewell said there is an existing logo and that are some leftover shirts that were already made and that we should get with Roger Stickney for more information.
10. New Business:
- IRS Status: Rob Bargewell mentioned that there was now a requirement to file a non-profit e-card with the IRS for tax exemption. This should have already been done. Not sure where this stand.
11. Announcements.
- WO Net: How many are members? About half the crowd raised their hands. Chapter VP Erin O’Hara encouraged everyone to go on line and check it out. The current topic of discussion is “Formal Delineation and Recognition of Warrant Officer Field Grade Status”.
12. Raffle. The 50-50 raffle was held at the end of the meeting with a total contribution of $ 92.00, which was shared by the Chapter and Dave Deming.
13. Adjournment – Chapter VP requested a motion be made to adjourn the meeting. The motion was made by Rob Bargewell and seconded by Al Ostrowski. The meeting adjourned at 1229. The next meeting is scheduled for 9 Oct 08 at a place TBD.
